Get Me Bodied

Silk Chiffon Fabric Installation

On the surface, it’s a decadent and joyous work that lures the viewer in with the lush beauty of the object itself. Upon closer investigation, just like the layering of the works creates dimension and depth, Lewis offers a more intricate and philosophical narrative, touching on issues of decoloniality, self-worth and commodification. In a similar way the images of “Get Me Bodied” are constantly shifting and transforming before the viewer’s eye and through their movement, ideas can be gently shifted and transformed through the consideration and re-evaluation of familiar images from unexpected angles once they have been planted inside the viewer’s mind.
